Voyager 4 is on its way

It has not been long ago since Voyager3 released.
In the midst of growth of the newest version, Jargoon’s development team has already started working on the next version, Voyager 4.

"Basically, Voyager 4 will cover all the functionalities of the previous version but there will be definite differences in Voyager 4 in many other ways. The rapid changes in the software markets and environment demand a fast upgrade and new technologies; therefore, it is very important to be able to predict and foresee what customers need and are looking for all the time. That's what we focus on and want to achieve in the next development process." Des, the director of Jargoon, said.

“What we want to achieve for this project is to make Voyager 4 as simple but comprehensive as possible. This project will include newly added functionalities such as route planning and managing chart. Also, Voyager 4 will display enhanced graphic and images by applying a new technology such as WPF. These new added functionalities will enable users to customise the software as they want and utilise it effectively. We strongly believe that Voyager 4 will deliver many advantages and convenience to the users even more." he added.

No date has been set. Joanne, the senior software engineer in Jargoon, briefly mentions that the development will keep going until the end of this year and the testing will be carried out from the early next year.

Monthly sales report - July.2011

Thomas Gunn Navigation Service Ltd(abbr.TGNS), the distributor of Voyager, has revealed the sales report which has been conducting from October in 2010 to the beginning of July this year.

The first graph that I would like to show you is to see the number of vessels where Voyager trial version has been using on.

It is interesting to see the sudden increase in number in November 2010. At around this time, the number reached at nearly one hundred, which was nearly  doubled in figure as compared to the reported number one month ago. It is because TGNS's sales team formed newly and worked efficiently. Since the short excitement, the number gradually went down remaining only forty vessels.

However, this is not an irritating fact.
Even thought, the total number decreased, we have experienced that the total number of Voyager user with full licenced Voyager still has been growing, reaching at nearly one thousand and four hundred vessels. This result proves that how successfully the trial captured the promising customers. That's why we are so proud of Voyager.

Although Voyager 3 has been released just three months ago, we have already made a big progress, which brings us a good positive result with  increasing numbers of customers. Furthermore, we foresee the figure will increase more as carriage requirements enforcement will take effect  in the near future.

A business meeting in London

Last Thursday, a business meeting held in TGNS's London office with the sales manager Takano Igarashi of Cornes &Co LTD(abbr.Cornes) Singapore and Mr.Des Neill, the director of Jargoon, was attended as well.

<image of Cornes from its website>

Cornes, established in 1861, is the oldest trading house in Japan and has more than eight hundred employees, eight branches in other parts of Asia such as Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore as well as its head quarter in Japan. Its main business sectors divide into four industries: automobile, agricultural machinery, insurance&maritime, and high technology. The relationship between Cornes and Voyager started with its maritime business.
Cornes, also known as the biggest charts distributor, has a number of chart display software developed by various companies and supply them to other companies. Plus, it also owns numerous vessels and 200 vessels among them have been using Voyager software at the moment.

<a brief description of Voyager>

In particular, this meeting was very important for Jargoon because it was the first time to introduce and demonstrate Voyager 3 to Cornes. It was just a forty-minutes demonstaration, but that was enough to impress Mr.Igarashi. He described Voyager as user friendly, and expressed his positive impression about Voyager 3, which has left bright predictions for future Voyager sales.

About Voyager

Introduction

Voyager 1 was launched in 2008 by UK company Jargoon.

Jargoon, was founded in 2005 as a bespoke software company, and started working with TGNS (Thomas Gunn Navigation Services Ltd) since its inauguration.

TGNS, known as one of the largest paper chart-selling companies in the world, wanted to meet their customers’ needs and the changing market, and requested that Jargoon developed an automated on-board chart management system and have gone into the partnership since ever.

That was the first step into the joint venture.

Voyager 1& 2

The main function of Voyager 1 was originally developed to send paper chart corrections to vessels at sea.

Voyager 1 was very simple as it was only for sending updates for paper charts; therefore it doesn't need to be so sophisticated or complicated.

The basic requirements for using this software were simple too. All you need to have was Windows XP PC, colour ink jet printer, and Internet or e-mail access; Therefore, it was convenient and cost-effective, but there was one problem: The file sizes were too big.

That’s why Voyager 2 was created in the following year. Voyager 2 still has its previous functions except one additional functionality- file compression. With its new function, Voyager 2 could send any data in nearly 60% compressed size than its original size;therefore it had become stronger covering its previous existing problems.

Soaring sales figure

Now, I would like speak about the sales figures. Since 2008, the sales volume clearly shows a huge difference. Let’s have a look.

According to the graph above, the sales figure of Voyager 1 between 2008 and 2009 was about four hundred. The Voyager 2’s sales volume, however, had soared reaching more than 1200 in number, showing three-times more sales result , which proved that a large number of companies chose to use Voyager 2 after its launch and it is one of best-selling services in the charts display software markets.

Voyager 3, it is on its way

Even though, Voyager 2 has been going on its success,Voyager 3 has been under its development. This new edition will have these additional functions mentioned in the table below.

As you can see the table above, there are four additional features on Voyager 3.
First of all, Voyager 3 was designed to receive digital chart corrections as well as paper chart correction. The previous versions were only able to receive paper chart corrections. According to latest news of IMO(International Maritime Organisation), all large passenger, tanker and cargo ships will be obliged to voyage with electronic chart and display information system(ECDIS) by 2018 and the new regulations will start to come into force in July 2012.

Secondly, crew members are able to manage their own charts and publications themselves. Before Voyager 3, users should have contacted their distributor and asked them to remove or add charts. It was irritating and inconvenient to both the distributors and customers. To reduce the irritation, adding this new functionality is essential and efficient.

Finally, the speedy access to files will make work easier. Even though there are several new features in comparison with Voyager 2, we tried to make the files with a better equality in a smaller size. The starting operating time is much quicker than in previous version.

Voyager 3 is due for release in May, 2011
